Update on the MoneySKILL Program

Many NILA members support the AFSA Education Foundation’s free financial education program, MoneySKILL. This online program offers teachers, parents, nonprofits, and businesses a high-quality resource for delivering financial education. Courses can be fully customized from a set of 37 personal finance modules and are available in English and Spanish.

According to a 2021 evaluation, more than 90% of students completing MoneySKILL see knowledge gains with an average grade increase of 60% when comparing pre- and post-test exams. Furthermore, the adoption of MoneySKILL in schools is shown to improve the likelihood of middle school students later obtaining a bank account and lead to increased numbers of high school FAFSA® student aid applications.

The AFSA Education Foundation also incorporates video content in each MoneySKILL module, along with professional audio recordings of the full curriculum. Course content is constantly updated reflect the latest information and trends.

Potential MoneySKILL instructors can visit afsaef.org  to register for a MoneySKILL instructor account to get started. AFSA member employees who are interested in promoting MoneySKILL within their communities can learn how to become a MoneySKILL Ambassador using social media content, email templates, and other promotional opportunities included in a toolkit designed for this purpose
